Slowing Down in Stellenbosch
The Project
Shot on a wine farm outside Stellenbosch, this film followed two friends settling into a simple camping escape surrounded by nature. Directed by Lyndon Stratford alongside Chris Joubert, with Joshua Snyman as 1st AC, the piece was captured over a relaxed four-hour shoot.
With a loose storyboard guiding us, the aim was to create something warm and tactile: a small outdoor world built around shared moments, simple rituals and the feeling of switching off.
The Approach
Rather than relying on a heavy music track, we wanted the film to be led by the sounds already present in the scene. The movement of gear, the preparation of camp, footsteps through the landscape and the quiet rhythm of being outdoors became part of the storytelling.
We also experimented with repetition and match cuts, linking actions together to create a natural flow through the film. The result was a piece that felt grounded, sensory and closely connected to the environment around it.
The Outcome
This was a simple, enjoyable production that gave us room to explore a quieter style of outdoor storytelling. With a beautiful location, two great models and a small focused team, we created a film that celebrates the pleasure of slowing down, heading outside and letting nature set the pace.
